Join NYLPI For Our 2019 Law and Society Awards

Join us for our 26th annual NYLPI Law and Society Award Luncheon on March 13 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Cipriani on 42nd Street.

This is one of the premier events of the corporate and legal communities in New York City. Over the last 25 years, our luncheon has played host to sell-out crowds consisting of partners from New York City’s American Lawyer 100 law firms, federal judges, and prominent members of the City’s Fortune 500 corporations. Our event includes a cocktail reception and seated luncheon, and provides sponsors with numerous recognition and networking opportunities.

The proceeds of the luncheon support NYLPI’s efforts to provide underrepresented New Yorkers with increased access to legal assistance. To find out more about sponsorship opportunities, or for further information, please contact Geneva Morris via email or call 212 244 4664. A list of confirmed event co-chairs is here, and our event sponsors are listed below.

This year we are proud to honor Kim Koopersmith, who is a partner and the chairperson of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, and Vanita Gupta, who is President and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights:

Kim Koopersmith, chairperson of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, guides the firm’s strategic direction, heads the firm’s management committee and ensures the firm’s continued commitment to client service, diversity, pro bono work and attorney excellence. She has played a key role in enhancing the firm’s overall performance, earning recognition for her innovative and transformative approach to law firm leadership. Throughout her career, Ms. Koopersmith pioneered many of Akin Gump’s efforts to enhance diversity and attract and retain the best talent, including driving the firm’s participation in scholarship and pipeline efforts. Ms. Koopersmith is involved in numerous community activities, including serving on the board of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, co-chairing the Pro Bono Institute Law Firm Committee and sitting on the board of Her Justice. She has also chaired the board of Equal Justice Works.

Vanita Gupta is President and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. Before joining The Leadership Conference in June 2017, Gupta served as Acting Assistant Attorney General and head of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. Appointed in October 2014 by President Barack Obama as the chief civil rights prosecutor for the United States, Gupta oversaw a wide range of criminal and civil enforcement efforts to ensure equal justice and protect equal opportunity for all during one of the most consequential periods for the division. Under Gupta’s leadership, the division did critical work in a number of areas, including advancing constitutional policing and criminal justice reform; prosecuting hate crimes and human trafficking; promoting disability rights; protecting the rights of LGBTQ individuals; ensuring voting rights for all; and combating discrimination in education, housing, employment, lending, and religious exercise.
