The New York Times building in New York

The New York Times featured NYLPI client Cleanup North Brooklyn and NYLPI Senior Staff Attorney Melissa Iachan in an article highlighting waste equity issues in North Brooklyn, the South Bronx, and Southeast Queens. Cleanup North Brooklyn recently released a report, Profits Before Safety, which documents a waste transfer station in the middle of their residential neighborhood committing over 1,260 violations of city and state law in the span of just six days. NYLPI’s environmental justice program has been a longstanding advocate in the fight for waste equity in New York City, and our work with Cleanup North Brooklyn represents an important new chapter in this fight.
