NYLPI Supports City Council’s Disability Justice Work

NYLPI staff testified yesterday before two city council bodies in support of important accessibility legislation.

Access-a-Ride Campaign Organizer Eman Rimawi gave testimony in support of  intro 1557, sponsored by Speaker Johnson and Council Members Rivera, Rodriguez, Levine, Reynoso and Constantinides. The legislation seeks to ensure accessibility of New York City’s streets, sidewalks, bicycle paths, bus lanes, bus stops, and public spaces. You can read Eman’s full testimony here.

Meanwhile, Suhali Mendez, advocate in the Disability Justice Program, testified before The City of New York Department of Housing Preservation & Development  about the Where We Live NYC report. It seeks to fight discrimination, confront segregation, and strengthen fair housing protections. You can read Suhali’s full testimony here.
