Politico features the PEAK Campaign in an article about advocates’ push to phase out polluting fossil fuel power plants in New York City owned by the New York Power Authority. The piece notes that the plants, built in 2001, were overwhelmingly sited in low-income communities of color, and quotes Environmental Justice Program Director Rachel Spector:

But advocates see an opportunity for NYPA to lead the way in transitioning off fossil fuels. The state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act requires the electricity sector to be emissions-free in a scant two decades.

“NYPA should absolutely be a leader in figuring out how to meet New York City’s reliability needs without relying on fossil fuel gas plants,” said Rachel Spector, an attorney with New York Lawyers for the Public Interest.
