The death of George Floyd incited an unprecedented wave of BLM protests across the nation, drawing millions of people into the fight against systemic racism. Dozens of medical, public health, nursing, and social work organizations, including the American Medical Association, have now connected the interwoven crises of police brutality and the deadly COVID pandemic and recognized systemic racism itself as a public health issue.
