Senior Staff Attorney and Lobbying Compliance Counsel
Melissa Iachan is a Senior Staff Attorney in the Environmental Justice program at NYLPI, where she advocates to improve access and equity for vulnerable low income communities and communities of color, particularly regarding circumstances which disproportionately impact those communities’ environmental and health conditions. Before joining NYLPI, Melissa worked for New York City at the mayor’s office, and at the New York City Business Integrity Commission, developing expertise in regulatory law. Previously, Melissa worked as a litigation associate in private practice in the areas of white collar defense, complex civil litigation and bankruptcy litigation. Melissa has experience in community organizing, political advocacy, government relations, and political strategy, which she combines in her advocacy work at NYLPI. Melissa received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and her B.A. from Brown University.
